Mobile Networking with Forecast

Posted by Maribel Guiste On February - 29 - 2012

Why leave your meeting up to chance, when you can leave it up to Forecast?

Location-based social applications have been enjoying a fair amount of both popularity and publicity, but there seems to be a gap. With Foursquare, you check in where you are with the idea that perhaps one of your friends will be near and join you at the local cafe. There’s an element of chance. One of the newest location apps to appear on the market is Forecast – and it’s taking chance out of the equation.

What’s It All About?

Forecast is available to users of Foursquare, Facebook and Twitter on both iPhone and Android phones. If you’re planning an event, or know you’re going to be somewhere within 2 weeks, check in. When others on your social lists see that you’ve made plans, they’re able to use the “Me Too” option to join in. For the social butterflies, Forecast allows you to schedule more than one meeting a night. When they arrive at the destination, they can easily “check in” and get the party started.

As of publishing, Forecast boasted a 4+ on iTunes and an 80% conversion rate for the app itself. That means if you schedule an event and someone replies to it, odds are they’ll keep their word and show up. This rate is said to be a little higher than a Facebook event (possibly due to the option of planning it so far in advance).

And For Business?

Forecast seems like a great tool to organize outings with friends, but are there applications for your digital marketing plan? Of course. Think of the networking possibilities. If someone you’ve wanted to do business with is having an outing, count yourself in! Of course, don’t make it all about business, but networking is all about meeting people.

Keep an eye on Forecast, as it is sure to release business benefits. It may not be long before businesses are able to release deals to those making plans at their establishments. And isn’t a targeted deal one of the best kinds?

Looking to add a location-based application to your mobile marketing plan and you’re not sure where to start? The first step is to contact a WSI Internet Consultant and explore your marketing strategy options.
