Public Relations, Not Page Rank

It’s easy to get caught up in trying to gain the highest possible rank for a website and forget the reason behind it all.

When you embark on a Public Relations exercise online, it is all about the content and the people behind it. All about the product, the service, the business; and so when we are publishing an article, creating a press release, “talking” on the social media forums, we should stop thinking about backlinks and think about the impression you want to create first and foremost.

Social Media, Articles, Blogs, Press Releases – these are all digital marketing tools that help you engage with your customers and help your business or brand be known. The more you do, and do well, the more you will be seen as the place to go to or the people to see.

Don’t get me wrong, you still need to find the correct channels of distribution in order for your brand to be visible. After all, if you take the time to write great content, you should try to get it seen so that people can benefit and respond.

But as you continue to build your credibility, the funny thing is… Backlinks and Page Rank follow!
