Part 2: Blogging and Content Marketing

Posted by Francois Muscat On March - 25 - 2010

This is the second post of my 4-part series where I will be discussing Blogging, Social Media, Content Marketing and the importance using these online tools to improve your business image online.

Include a blog in your marketing strategy

Blogging is a powerful business digital marketing tool. Blogging can be much more than simply expressing your opinions. A blog can be used to attract targeted readers and to interact with them. It is one of the most effective and powerful Content Marketing tools that a business can use.

Blogging is part of the web known as Social Media. Out of all the Social Media Marketing strategies, blogging is the most powerful and can make the most positive impact for your business. The objective in blogging is quite different to that of website marketing. In traditional website marketing your purpose is to get leads and convert your prospect into a customer.

Blog marketing is about influencing. It is about attracting an audience with interesting, useful and original information. Business blogging can brand your business and position you as the expert to your readers so that you become the natural choice to do business with.

A blog can dramatically improve your website’s search engine rankings in a couple of ways.

Keyword rich content

By adding a blog to your website marketing mix, you create the opportunity to add original keyword rich content to your website with each blog post as they are seen as new pages to your website by search engines. Large websites do much better in search engine results than small websites. If you add 2 blog posts a week, in a year you would have increased your website’s online visibility by 100 pages. That’s what I call “creating a business asset” out of your website.

RSS

RSS (Real Simple Syndication) that’s connected to your blog, broadcasts your message in minutes across the web. No more waiting for the search engines to crawl your website. Your blog will regularly attract targeted visitors who are searching for the information that you provide.

SEO

SEO content writing methods will not only bring your blog to the top rankings in Google, but also your business website. Using keywords in blog titles and in link text is an effective SEO technique. This is the method that many experienced Search Engine Optimization (SEO) firms use to get their clients phenomenal search engine results.

In my next post I will be comparing “web content vs. print content”
