LinkedIn Adds Their “Follow Company” Button

Posted by Maribel Guiste On March - 1 - 2012

Earlier this week on their blog, LinkedIn announced the arrival of their “Follow Company” button.  So, what exactly does this mean for business owners?

Although LinkedIn is still seen primarily as a recruitment site, they are making changes toward being a more social media-friendly outlet for businesses and marketers alike. The addition of the “Follow Company” button earlier this week has definite perks for not only job seekers, but business owners as well. Like all social media marketing objectives it just takes a little creativity and exploration to fully appreciate how this function can benefit your business to the fullest.

By embedding the LinkedIn “Follow Company” badge on your homepage, followers of your company will get automatic updates on news, employee changes and can get a handle of basic trends in the industry. Why would you, as a business owner, care about this particular feature?

Check out just a few benefits you may find interesting:

  • You can just as easily follow other companies to track what the competition is doing. There is no limit to the number of companies you can follow.
  • Find talent easily for outsourcing by following when employees of other companies leave.
  • Looking to make a deal with a company that has a difficult decision maker or gatekeeper? You’ll see when they leave, so you can make your move.
  • When people follow you, don’t be shy! Contact them and get their perspective on what you’re doing right…or wrong.

American Express is said to be added the “Follow Company” badge and it’s rumored that other large brands may be following close behind. Plus, with around 2 million companies in the LinkedIn network, this badge will definitely open new doors. Where they lead may be up to you.

Keeping up to date with the newest trends in digital marketing can be tough. So, make the easiest business decision by contacting a WSI Internet Consultant today.
