Google Search Plus Your World Changing the Face of Search

With the launch of Google Search Plus Your World (SPYW), not only is great content important, but so is your social media footprint.

If you thought that Google+ was just a passing fad and you could skip that step in your SEO plan, you may want to think twice. Recently, Google+ launched Google Search Plus Your World which incorporates Google+ social mentions in the results – first. That means if you’re looking for, say, reviews for the newest movies, your friends’ Google+ comments about movies may come up before the actual reviews.

What Does This Mean?
Since SPYW is based on sharing content, it means popularity counts. If a business isn’t engaging with their audience, especially on Google+, they’re liable to get lost in the shuffle – making it harder for customers to find them. For obvious reasons, antitrust issues have been brought up. The FTC is already currently looking at Google closely, and will be looking further with these most recent issues.

What Can I Do?
To keep your digital marketing plan working well, best thing to do is to keep your Google+ account up-to-date and interesting. When you guest blog or add a link to an article you’ve written, send the author tag to your Google+ page.

Between changes to search and surprise algorithm changes, Google sure is keeping us on our toes. But what does that mean for the digital marketing community? It means you stay relevant.
