Online Reputation Management

Posted by Tracy Spence On July - 29 - 2010

You should be keeping an eye on the Internet to see if your personal name, brand name, or your registered Trademarks are being discussed. There are lots of digital marketing tools available to help you.
Social sites have helped and hindered many businesses and professionals. Social networking sites, social media sites, blogs, and forums are being used to review, rate, and rant about products, services, and people. While this can benefit your business by spreading a positive word, it can also be used by disgruntled employees and unhappy customers. Start by tracking your online reputation with the following sites and services.

  • Google Alerts
  • Social News Sites
  • Social Networks
  • Social Bookmarking Sites
  • Media Sharing Sites
  • Blogs

These are just a few of the tools that may or may not feature you or your business. You should also consider other websites like Wikipedia, which are user created and many others too.

Another great alert tool is http://socialmention.com/alerts/ it allows you to set up alerts just like for Google but for social properties.

Google alert is good when you are doing online reputation management monitoring. I've been using it since before and i find it very useful.
  • Hi - I totally Agree, Google Alerts is a really great tool, but so as not to be totally biased, so are Yahoo Alerts :)

    Thanks for commenting

  • Hi Tracy, I signed up for Google Alerts and that was pretty cool. Then I signed up for Social Mentions and that was much more comprehensive. I was surprised to find a lot more was being said about me than I thought. Because I have a YouTube channel I use Insights to track when and where my videos are being embedded. Many of them are missed by YouTube and Google Alerts but show up in Social Mentions whenever the person tweets the article where they embedded the video. It just goes to show you can't over do it when it comes to monitoring your online reputation. Thanks for being there to help those that need a hand.
  • Hi Ileane,

Good to hear you are monitoring your brand reputation. I agree, there are so many good and useful tools out there that we can be using to gain the information that we need. Google Alerts, Insights, Monitter, yotify, are all good, but yes, sometimes things can get missed. WSI use a selection for our monitoring to make sure we have as much as possible covered, and in a timely manner too.

of course, you may have to clear out the weeds from the flowers, but the more you do, the better you can manage your online reputation.

Keep reading, there is a lot more to come. Thank you.
